 Extending care to our environment

 Happy 4th Anniversary!
Message from CEO – Going from strength to strength

Dear Colleagues,

GHK celebrates its 4th birthday in this special month of March! Blessed with a team of dedicated professionals, we have made great strides in our hospital development and in the gaining of trust from our patients and doctors over the past few years.

Despite our continuous battle against the pandemic, we managed to develop a number of new services including the opening of the Oncology Ward, launching of telemedicine service, and expanding our Gleneagles Medical Clinic in Central. Launching new services was made more complicated in a pandemic environment, yet, we were proven a highly proficient team in the timely delivery of the many different new projects. Although we could not gather to celebrate the anniversary due to social-distancing restrictions, some senior staff and I had the pleasure of serving you lunch at Gleneagles Bistro earlier this month as a small token of our thankfulness for all your hard work. We also organised an internal photo competition which invited many creative photos. It was great to see the positive energy of our staff in these photos! As we enter our fifth year, I look forward to building an even stronger team and further bringing into play our strengths to achieve even more milestones with you!

Those who attended the Town Hall last week would have received an overview of the key findings on GHK’s performance in various areas including Engagement, Leadership, Goals & Strategy, and Organizational Capability under the IHH Employee Engagement Survey 2020. We are pleased to learn that the overall result of GHK is on par with the East Asia benchmark, with team efficiency identified as one of our key strengths. Nonetheless, some areas are to be improved. These include the communication with staff on the hospital’s goals and strategies, and whether the management understands the pain points experienced by staff at work. Your views and comments are important to us, and as a next step, we will actively discuss with different departments to devise and implement corresponding improvement plans.

On top of the various existing staff communications channels, I have recently started the “CEO Blog”, through which I intend to share with you my thoughts on a spectrum of healthcare-related topics on a regular basis. Hopefully, the blog will also serve as another platform for members of the public to get to know GHK better. If you wish to know more about, say, GHK’s future development or my views on any specific healthcare topics, do feel free to let your supervisor know, or simply tell me about it next time you see me around.

The community vaccination centre in our hospital, which started running on 16 March, went smoothly. Having said that, the unexpected suspension of the vaccination of Comirnaty across the city last week once again put our responsiveness and adaptability to test. While we wait for the Government’s notification to resume the inoculation, I invite you to watch the vaccination videos prepared by our Infection Prevention and Control Department such that you can make informed decisions on the vaccination for yourselves and your family.

Joining the city-wide effort to vaccinate

In support of the city-wide COVID-19 Vaccination Programme, we have set up a community vaccination centre in our hospital and started providing COVID-19 inoculation service for members of the public on 16 March.

As we all do our part to protect ourselves and others, our CEO Dr Kenneth Tsang and a number of our colleagues and doctors were among the first to get vaccinated at the centre.

A round of applause for all teams and colleagues who have helped establish the centre and facilitated its smooth operation.

Let’s continue to work together and win this war!

A quarter of sound progress

GHK had its first Town Hall meeting of 2021 on 25 March during which our CEO Dr Kenneth Tsang and relevant heads shared a review of the progress the hospital has made during the first quarter of the year, amid our continuous battle against the pandemic.

On top of updates on the COVID-19 community vaccination centre which GHK has been running, staff were given heads-up on the timeline of the ACHS periodic review and a number of upcoming new services, including the Endoscopy & Day Surgery Centre, Digital Subtraction Angiography Suite, introduction of robotic-arm assisted knee replacement surgery at GHK, and Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation service.

A session was dedicated to present to staff the key findings of the IHH Employee Engagement Survey, the insights on how GHK is perceived by its staff, and the next steps to take to make improvements.

We also took the occasion to present various awards to recognise staff and doctors who had demonstrated excellence in their respective areas.

Congratulations again to all our awardees!

Extending care to our environment

GHK has recently joined the Eye Treatment Products Recycling Campaign hosted by EcoDrive, a not-for-profit entity committed to promoting the reduction of single-use plastic in Hong Kong. The campaign aims to recycle plastic waste such as eye drop bottles and vials and contact lens blister packs, which are otherwise sent to landfills.

We are pleased to be part of this initiative and invite our patients, doctors and staff to participate in it. The collection box is at our Eye Clinic on G/F, Tower A.

Be part of this meaningful campaign and start recycling now!

Happy 4th Anniversary!

Our hospital turned 4 years old on 21 March! Kudos to everyone who have put their heart and soul into everything they did to help GHK grow and provide the best care for patients. The anniversary is a celebration of our passion to serve, and an opportune time for us to thank our devoted colleagues.

Thank you everyone again for being part of GHK and its growth journey!
