Message from Chief Executive Officer

Dear Colleagues,

Over the years, we have been leveraging innovative equipment and advanced technologies to enhance treatment outcomes and patient experience. Recently, we have welcomed the arrival of our new robotic spine surgical system which is expected to further elevate precision and safety while providing patients with an additional option. Our Orthopaedics team will soon join hands with HKUMed’s Department of Orthopaedics and Traumatology who pioneered robot-assisted spine surgery in Hong Kong to offer this innovative treatment at GHK. Meanwhile, the team is planning to conduct a research study on robotic-assisted spine surgery through Gleneagles Clinical Trials Centre to further validate the effectiveness of this latest technology in spine surgery.

As shared in our last Town Hall meeting, Gleneagles Dispensary in our hospital will be launched soon to offer medicine, wound care, nutritional products, and one-stop medications and health consultation service. In the slightly longer run, we look forward to supporting public hospital patients with discounted drugs through participating in the Government's community pharmacy programme. With the hope of playing a more active role in supporting our community, we are in discussion with a cancer service charity to launch a patient support programme through which patients and their families will have access to information and support related to cancer care.

Promoting antimicrobial resistance (AMR) awareness has always been one of the commitments under IHH's sustainability pillars. We as a healthcare provider plays a particularly important role in promulgating and educating staff and the public on the proper use of antimicrobial drugs. During the earlier World Antimicrobial Resistance Awareness Week 2024, educational talks and booth games were organised to raise awareness and understanding of AMR among our staff. Thanks to our Infection Prevention and Control team, Pharmacy and all other teams that have helped put together the activities to promote the prevention of the spread of AMR!

May I also take this opportunity to send my note of thanks to our colleagues who have been participating in various volunteering community services. Your contribution shows your genuine care and kindness for others, and I would like to say, you have made us proud!

Warm regards,

Going the extra mile to Care for People
Congratulations to GHK on being named a “Good MPF Employer” and presented with “e-Contribution” and “MPF Support” awards by the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority!

The awards were achieved in recognition of GHK’s continuous commitment to go the extra mile in our retirement protection provision for staff. In addition to our competitive MPF benefits, additional retirement protection has been provided through the implementation of our Employer Voluntary Contribution Scheme since 2023.
Sharing baby-friendly experiences
at Breastfeeding Symposium

GHK had the pleasure to participate in the Breastfeeding Symposium 2024 co-organised by the Department of Health (DH), the Hospital Authority, the Hong Kong Private Hospital Association, the Hong Kong Committee for UNICEF, and the Baby Friendly Hospital Initiative Hong Kong Association (BFHIHKA).

The symposium offered an engaging platform for discussion and insight exchange on the enhancement of professional support for breastfeeding. Our Nursery Nurse Manager Grace Hui shared our experiences in promoting and supporting breastfeeding in a private hospital setting and exchanged views on the emerging trends of the implementation of the Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative in Hong Kong with representatives from public hospitals and Maternal and Child Health Centres.

As a prelude to the symposium, a hospital visit was hosted for overseas speakers of the Symposium, and representatives of the DH, BFHIHKA as well as other private hospitals. We took the opportunity to introduce to the delegation our baby-friendly hospital accreditation journey and highlight the various measures at GHK.
Exchanging insights into self-help health technology

GHK is pleased to have taken part in the inaugural Primary Healthcare Summit organised by The LKS Faculty of Medicine of The University of Hong Kong (HKUMed) which brought together international, regional and local healthcare professionals, policy makers, researchers and industry players to share and discuss the current and future development of primary healthcare.

In the session “Disease Management and Self-Help through Technology — Innovation, Entrepreneurship, and Evidence”, our CEO Dr Kenneth Tsang introduced some of the self-help technologies adopted at GHK to empower patients to play a more active role in self-managing their health and facilitating more timely healthcare. Dr Tsang also exchanged views with panelists on the key considerations in building or adopting self-help technologies.
