Dear colleagues,
This June edition reminds us that we are already moving into the second half of the year. In the first six months, we focused on a number of priorities which included stabilising operation, building patient volume, and recruiting more staff to support our expansion. I think that we have been making good progress on many fronts, with your great effort, I believe we have laid a very good foundation for achieving more in the months to come.
June also marks my first anniversary at GHK! My first year at GHK has demonstrated to me both the enjoyment and sense of pioneering that comes with leading an innovating startup, and the occasional frustration of dealing with things that don’t work, the complexity of our model and partnerships and the unfortunate media attention. Overall, I have to say that I find the experience of working with so many dedicated colleagues on getting GHK on a strong footing an amazingly rewarding experience.
A few months back there were a few issues and incidents which generated some undesirable media exposure, however, these also presented opportunities for us to reflect on our own practice, workflow, policies etc. Some of the lessons learned have also helped us review and improve some of our staff-related matters. I would like to take this chance to reassure you that open communication and transparency remains our GHK culture and we will continue to adhere to it.
We have opened Behavioral Health Clinic as scheduled. My appreciation goes to our nurses, doctors and other supporting teams for making this happen! As you may know, we also target to launch our inpatient psychiatric service toward year-end which will make us the first private hospital in Hong Kong to provide both outpatient and inpatient psychiatric care – another unique offering we should be proud of.
Our facilities improvement work continues during the month. Some of you may have noted our newly-decorated Paediatric Clinic, which is one of the good initiatives in enhancing patient experience. Thanks to our colleagues who contributed their ideas in the theme and design to make the clinic a lot more welcoming and family and children-friendly. This enhancement will be extended to our inpatient Paediatric ward.
We are also moving on to strengthen our engagement with patients and community. Most recently, we have already had the first meeting with our client feedback group. With insights from the members, we hope to understand more from customers’ perspective our service standard, prices, information clarity etc. Simultaneously, we are working on seeking guidance from members across different sectors of the community on initiatives such as strategy, pricing, profile building and service development, through setting up an advisory council.
Thank you all for your contribution to what we have achieved so far. Meanwhile, let’s keep up the good work!

Chief Executive Officer

Launch of behavioural health outpatient service

Congratulations to the team for bringing the Behavioural Health Clinic up and running!
The official opening of our outpatient Behavioural Health Clinic on 21 June has increased the number of our Specialist Outpatient Clinics to 14. Located on G/F of Tower B, the clinic provides comprehensive treatments and rehabilitation services to patients with behavioural problems such as mood disorder, anxiety disorder, dementia and psychotic disorder etc.
The opening of this clinic will help us strengthen our specialist outpatient service and better meet patients’ needs. This outpatient service will be complemented by inpatient psychiatry care, targeted to be launched by the end of 2018. Upon the launch of the inpatient service, GHK will be the first and only hospital in Hong Kong to provide both behavioural outpatient and inpatient care.

To equip staff, especially front-line colleagues, with the skills and techniques to manage patients in the most appropriate ways, our Psychiatrist Dr Carmen Lam and nurse manager Mr Ricky Lau gave a training session to staff on how to be more alert to patients’ needs and changes of emotions, assess risks and ensuring personal safety in violent situations.

Making cookies, making friends
|

To foster bond-building among staff and promoting work-life balance, “GHK Club” has been formed to organise diversified recreation activities for all colleagues to join. An initiative suggested during an earlier staff retreat, the Club is formed by a small group of our own staff. Through offering various leisure activities, it is hoped that colleagues will find another platform to get to know and build friendships with colleagues of different departments, which will in turn facilitate the building of a collaborative culture at GHK.
The Club’s kick-off activity was a cookie-making class which received overwhelming responses with the quota fully taken up soon after the invite was out. A note of appreciation to our Head Chef Lou Kuok Kam, Pastry Sous Chef Ms Au Lut Yee and Pastry Chef Choi Lai Shan who kindly taught nearly 40 colleagues to make delicious cookies in the shapes of hospital uniform, animals and cartoon characters.

Visiting to a hospital can be stressful for some children. To make visits to doctors a more relaxing experience for the little ones, our Paediatric Clinic has put on a new look after a revamp of its interior designs.
The clinic has been refurbished with cartoon animal décor featuring vibrant colours and interesting cartoon imagery on the walls, doors, cabinets etc. The clinic is also furnished with padded chairs and benches and anti-slip floor mat in the waiting area. The newly-filled reading corner allows children to enjoy reading with their parents while waiting for their consultations.
