Dear colleagues,
With the Christmas celebrations coming up soon, I would like to send my congratulations to all of you on a number of milestone figures we have achieved. During the month of October, we recorded an accumulation of over 7,000 outpatient visits, 1,000 admissions, almost 350 surgeries and 350 endoscopy procedures, and our 100th baby was delivered in the month. These are very encouraging figures and I attribute these great progress to your hard work and dedication. The flip side is that it has been tough for our front line colleagues to deal with the surge, especially over the last week or so. We are working hard to recruit more colleagues and further beef up our front line teams to deal with the increase in patients.
Last week, around 120 doctors joined us at our annual Physicians’ Cocktail Party. More than an occasion to show our appreciation to our doctors, many of us took the opportunity to make more connections with our existing and new doctors and discuss in more depth about the state of affairs about our hospital. I received many encouraging comments about the development of our services, though, blessed as we are with perceptive and vocal doctors, they also pointed towards areas that need more work; we have taken note! It was an enjoyable evening and well done to our colleagues in Business Development & Marketing and Medical Affairs & Physicians Engagement for organising this event. We will also look for other formats of activities and continue to build a larger and more close-knit doctor community to help create stronger attachment of our doctors to our hospital.
GHK has been participating in different corporate social responsibility (CSR) activities in various formats, and to consolidate our efforts such that we can contribute to the wider community, we are planning to form our CSR Workgroup which will help drive relevant initiatives. As many of you may know, we will start off with participating in the Green Power Hike organised by Green Power, and I am pleased to share with you that our staff (including myself) and doctors have already formed three energetic teams to represent GHK to take part in the Medical Services Cup. May I call for your support to our GHK teams by participating in the support team and/or making donations. We will continue to identify suitable initiatives which will help GHK build a closer bond with the community. Stay tuned to further communications on how you may become part of the workgroup.
Please also note that with the increase in costs, we will also need to make some adjustments to the pricing of our services per 1 January. This will not impact room rates and consultation rates. Separate communication has been sent out to all staff and doctors, including about timing and where you can find the new prices.
The last two months of the year are usually when we are busy making plans for the next year and indeed this is what we have been doing too. Work has been underway to identify our focus for 2019 and beyond and the corresponding strategies. I will be sharing some of the broad pictures with you in due course.

Cheers to GHK’s continuous GROWTH with our doctors!
Our annual Physicians’ Cocktail Party greeted around 120 doctors on 21 November. Themed “GROWTH”, GHK took the opportunity to thank our doctors for their continued support and engage them for deeper ideas exchange on how we can work closer with our doctors to help the hospital achieve stronger growth. The evening was enlivened by a fascinating sand drawing performance, highlighted the unique features of GHK and its development achieved over the past 20 months! Knowledge sharing with public hospitals
At the Hospital Authority’s Kowloon Central Cluster Annual Occupational Safety & Health (OSH) Forum held on 5 November, our Quality, Safety and Risk Management Department shared with the audience the challenges and opportunities GHK experienced in developing a safety management system for a new hospital. The topics shared included the software and hardware requirements for setting up a good OSH system at GHK, and how we managed the OSH incidents we encountered at the earlier stage of operation.

Congratulations to winner of Service Champion Pin Design Competition!
Congratulations to Ms Shirley Chan from Business Office for winning the Service Champion Pin Design Competition! The five shortlisted designs were put to a vote and the design crafted by Shirley, inspired by a clover and a guardian angel which symbolise wellness and heartwarming protection, won the hearts of our colleagues. Our round of applause also goes to Miss Nicole Sin of Service Excellence and Mr Caleb Pang of Information Technology for receiving the second and the third highest number of votes respectively.
The winning design will be made into a metal badge and awarded to GHK Service Champions, a new scheme which recognises colleagues who exhibit outstanding service attitude in their daily interactions with patients and visitors.
Thanks everyone for your participation and creativity!

“Walk with you in care” microfilm premier
We strive to help patients better manage their health and improve their quality of life. To this end, raising public awareness of different common diseases is an integral part. An educational microfilm “Walk with you in care” was produced in collaboration with Professor Roger Ngan, Dr Lorraine Chow and Dr Amy Chang who played in the film to help raise awareness of breast cancer and explain the effective treatments available to fight the disease.
The film was premiered at Gleneagles Bistro earlier this month. Couldn’t make it to the premier? No worries, you can always enjoy watching the microfilm on GHK website and Facebook page.
