Dear Colleagues,
I hope that you had some joyous and safe celebrations with your family and friends during the Christmas holiday.
With the fourth wave of the pandemic going full swing, we reviewed our policies and reactivated some of our anti-pandemic measures to ensure the safety of our staff and patients. In addition to resuming access control of all persons entering the hospital, we have required all visitors to complete our registration form which has been revised in accordance with the latest guidelines on visitor policy issued by the Department of Health (DOH). Simultaneously, we have recently implemented self-administered COVID-19 testing for endoscopy day cases, in addition to oncology and dialysis day patients, which we had implemented earlier. To minimise staff’s risks of exposure to the infection, we also reactivated split operations for our support departments. We have remained steadfast and we will continue to stay vigilant and pragmatic and communicate with you any emerging risks and how these are dealt with. Meanwhile, I also encourage that you voice your concerns, if any, to your supervisors so that we may address them.
As far as feasible, we moved ahead with some of the goals we set for the year to build our ability to meet growing demand in certain areas. December saw the opening of the Oncology Ward which allows different teams of specialists to take care of patients under different cancer treatments in a more comprehensive and coordinated manner. Just before Christmas, we obtained DOH’s approval to change our Endoscopy Centre to Endoscopy and Day Surgery Centre. This approval allows us to convert two procedure rooms into four minor operating theatres to facilitate our development of day surgery service. Meanwhile, system installation, compliance testing and relevant licencing for the new Digital Subtraction Angiography Suite have been completed and we are looking to launch the service of the Suite in January 2021. Thank you to all relevant departments and colleagues involved for their hard work and for pushing these hard to make them happen within the year!
We had the last Town Hall meeting of the year when we spent some of the time to review the progress we made in the past quarter and share with you GHK’s priorities for next year. As a member of IHH Healthcare, we aim to align our priorities with the IHH strategic goals, which are to build trust, improve locally and synergise globally, and develop robust and sustainable growth platform. With these as the overarching goals, our priorities are built around the four key pillars of growth, profit improvement, patient journey improvement and people development. Specific goals are set under each of the pillars and these will form the basis of your department’s work plan for the year ahead.
The anti-pandemic rules under the current situation have meant that we could not celebrate Christmas and New Year with you the ways we used to be. Having said that, we made the sharing of joy and celebrations with staff go online, and I hope that you had the opportunity to participate in the online games and had some fun winning the different prizes. COVID-19 vaccines have given the world some new hope, but before our lives can really be back to normal, you can expect to see that we will continue to explore new and innovative ways to provide our services and engage our patients, staff and other stakeholders in a safe manner. One example is the planned integration of virtual consultation into our patient app.
Despite the difficult environment, GHK managed commendable achievements on different fronts including the various new services we launched during the year. Your diligence and resilience were indispensable to making all these possible. In my last monthly message as GHK CEO, I send you my gratefulness for your support and contribution which were vital to GHK’s steady growth and increasing reputation among patients and doctors. I am particularly grateful for those of you who have been with us since the early days. I am proud of everything that we have achieved together during the past few years. The fond memories we shared at GHK will always be treasured.
With 2021 just around the corner, I wish you all a healthy and prosperous New Year! And before our paths may cross again, my best wishes to all of you!

Subsequent to the earlier partnership with Hong Kong Telecom (HKT) on the launch of its DrGo teleconsultation platform, GHK has recently joined hands with AIA Hong Kong (AIA) and HKT to provide telemedicine service for AIA employees and financial planners. The service will be extended to AIA customers next year.
Patients can make medical appointments and receive video consultation services provided by GHK via HKT’s one-stop telemedicine platform DrGo in the comfort of their homes with prescribed medicine delivered to them within four hours. Wrapping up 2020 with Town Hall Meeting
|
|
|

The last town hall meeting of 2020 was held on 16 December during which we reviewed the progress made on various fronts in the quarter and shared an outlook for GHK for 2021.
While 2021 is expected to be another challenging year for GHK, Hospital Management introduced to staff the hospital’s four key pillars of priorities for the coming year, namely growth, profit improvement, patient journey improvement, and people development and the corresponding goals under each pillar. We strive to provide an even better environment for patients, and a more efficient work environment for staff. To this end, relevant departments shared their plans on facilities improvement work and initiatives to be taken to enhance our Hospital Management System.
Separately, we took the opportunity to show recognition to staff via the presentation of the Service Champions Awards and Hand Hygiene Compliance Outstanding Performance Awards.
Hosting the last meeting as GHK CEO, Mr Dirk Schraven thanked all staff for their continuous support and dedication to the hospital, and especially during the challenging year when GHK fought to provide quality and safe care to patients amid the pandemic.
