New technology introduced in sweat gland removal treatment

 Recent happenings at GHK
Message from CEO

Dear Colleagues,

In tandem with introducing new and advanced technology and equipment as our services develop, we have been establishing different Centres of Excellence to provide highly-specialised treatments. Recently, we have introduced to the media our new Peritoneal Malignancy Treatment (PMT) Centre. The first of its kind in Hong Kong specialising in treating peritoneal metastasis, the PMT Centre provides novel procedures including Hyperthermic Intraperitoneal Chemotherapy (HIPEC) and Pressurized Intraperitoneal Aerosol Chemotherapy (PIPAC). Since its launch last year, dozens of peritoneal cancer patients have undergone the treatments with excellent clinical outcomes. Statistics in the past couple of years tell us that the demand for cancer services is on the rise. Taking our Oncology Ward as an example, the number of cases managed last month was a double of the caseload handled a year ago. I attribute the growth and the trust gained from our patients to your effort in always putting patients first and providing the best quality of care.

Oncology, Cardiology, General Surgery, Orthopaedics & Traumatology, and Obstetrics & Gynaecology will remain our service focus areas. Yet, this does not stop us from developing new services in other specialties. Our Skin & Laser Clinic has recently introduced MiraDry microwave ablation of sweat glands, a new procedure adopting patented non-invasive microwave technology for more effective treatment of hyperhidrosis.

The Digital Subtraction Angiography (DSA) Suite launched earlier has allowed our doctors to perform various diagnostic and interventional procedures with 3D digital imaging technology. Just last week, our team performed the first urgent interventional radiology procedure for a patient who experienced severe uterine bleeding after a Cesarean delivery. Credit to our highly-responsive and efficient team, the patient was in a stable condition after a smooth and successful uterine artery embolisation.

I am pleased to share with you that the new surgical robotic system in our operating theatre is undergoing its final stage of commissioning and trial run. With this new system, we are looking to progressively extend minimally-invasive surgeries to more specialties as to further raise our surgical capacity and provide more treatment options for patients.

You may recall the Employee Engagement Survey (EES) you took part in last year. To assess the effectiveness of the post-survey actions taken in response to your feedback to the EES, we have invited all of you to participate in the 2021 Year-end Pulse Survey. I call for your active participation in the Survey to help us address your needs more closely and identify the areas that you would like more support from the hospital. Your views count, and together, we can make GHK a better workplace for everyone!

Healthcare resilience and sustainability re-examined at Asia Summit on Global Health

GHK has participated in the recent Asia Summit on Global Health as the event’s “Future Private Health Partner” to exchange views with local and international key players, officials and decisions makers in the healthcare industry on how to make healthcare more resilient and sustainable at a global level.

As participants were engaged in thought-provoking discussions which examined global trends on health innovation and investment, global collaboration in healthcare and more, our CEO Dr Kenneth Tsang shared in a panel discussion session his insights into how private healthcare may contribute to the GBA-Hong Kong integration in the area of healthcare management.

At the Summit, we were also privileged to have our exhibition area graced by Chief Executive of the HKSAR Carrie Lam, Mr Ong Ye Kung, Minister for Health of the Republic of Singapore, and Mr Ong Siew Gay, Consul General of the Singapore Consulate-General in Hong Kong.

New technology introduced in sweat gland removal treatment

Our Skin & Laser Clinic now provides MiraDry microwave ablation of sweat glands for patients with hyperhidrosis and bromhidrosis. With its patented non-invasive microwave technology, the treatment delivers microwave energy to the sweat glands through a sterile single-use bioTip, the sweat glands are destroyed and sweating is hence reduced.

Performed by certified plastic surgeons or dermatologists, the treatment is clinically proven to achieve an 82% reduction of underarm sweat on average, offering patients an additional option of safe and effective treatment.
