Message from CEO

Dear Colleagues,

GHK turns FIVE years old this March! Our 5th anniversary is a momentous occasion for many of us, especially for colleagues who have joined the GHK family since its opening. I am most thankful for the contribution each and every one of you has made to the hospital, and helping GHK reach where it is today.

I have very much hoped that we could get together to celebrate this special day, but regrettably, with the ongoing pandemic situation, hosting physical celebration activities has turned not quite feasible. Nonetheless, I hope that you had the chance to enjoy the video which encapsulates some of the milestones we have achieved and the happy moments that we shared over the past five years. As an appreciation to your unfailing support, we are in the process of preparing a 5th anniversary commemorative album which will be delivered to all of you when it is ready. As we move into our second five-year, I look forward to working closely with you to capitalise on our team spirit and strengths to achieve more important milestones and provide even better care for more patients.

March was also a month during which we worked hard to maintain our services amid the shortage of manpower due to the surge of infections in the community. Despite the unprecedentedly challenging situation, we supported the city’s anti-pandemic work through different feasible ways. In addition to setting aside some beds in phases for non-COVID-19 referrals from public hospitals, we also launched a free virtual consultation service, which has recently been further enhanced and extended until the end of April. To step up our outpatient care to COVID-19 patients, we have launched today the COVID-19 Outpatient Service, designated for COVID-19 patients with mild symptoms so that they can receive care in a more efficient and smoother manner. Our support extends to committing to providing medical support to the elderly patients at a government’s holding centre. The swift implementation of these initiatives would not have been possible without your great teamwork, and I am truly grateful for that.

Your safety remains one of our top priorities, and as I stressed in the earlier Town Hall, we will continue to ensure that our staff work in a safe environment with appropriate personal protective equipment. Our staff’s mental wellness is just as important to us. Noting that the pandemic has brought considerable stress and challenges to us at work and in our daily life, two online sessions were hosted by social workers to share professional advice on how we keep a healthy and positive mind amid these difficult times.

Riding on our 5th anniversary, we will be unveiling to you a reinterpretation of GHK’s service orientation through different means. I hope that the campaign will help you appreciate in greater depth GHK’s development direction. Also coming up next is the return of our Service Week! I call upon your active participation in this Group-wide initiative and the series of activities on promoting a service culture in our hospital.

Celebrating GHK’s 5th Anniversary!

Happy Birthday! GHK turned 5 years old on 21 March!

To many of us, the achievements GHK has made during our first five years are a testament to our commitment, determination and passion. This is also a particularly meaningful occasion for colleagues who were our pioneers and have been with us since the commissioning stage.

The hit of the fifth wave of COVID-19 in Hong Kong has meant that we had to withhold the celebration activities that we have planned to thank our colleagues. Amid the exceptionally difficult times, our CEO Dr Kenneth Tsang sent his personal note of appreciation to our colleagues through a video featuring a playback of the exciting growth journey GHK has led and the proud and happy moments we shared during these years.

As we stay hopeful that Hong Kong will overcome this wave, we look forward to engaging you in a number of anniversary-themed initiatives in the coming months.

Thank you all again for being part of the GHK family and helping the hospital build a solid foundation!

If you missed it on 21 March, enjoy a replay of the video here

Connecting with staff at Town Hall Meeting

Our communication with staff could only become more important as we fight hard against the fifth wave of the pandemic. At the virtual Town Hall, staff were briefed on the hospital’s direction in managing this wave and the multiple initiatives being taken internally and externally.

These ranged from the latest policy on helping us manage the unexpected manpower shortage, how we made use of telemedicine during the critical period, to the steps taken to strengthen our support to staff, COVID-19 patients and public hospitals. Staff were also reassured on the sufficient protective equipment to ensure their safety.

Fighting COVID-19 with Hong Kong
Further enhancing pandemic support
via free telemedicine and medication delivery service

GHK has been taking a multi-pronged approach to support Hong Kong and COVID-19 patients in fighting the fifth wave of the pandemic. Since early March, we have launched free online medical counselling service, with the support from NWS Holdings Limited (NWS), to provide timely and professional support to members of the public who are under home isolation due to COVID-19 infection and other patients with medical needs but unable to seek medical assistance.

With the continued support from NWS, on 24 March, GHK enhanced its free telemedicine service to provide free online consultation, prescription medication, a rapid antigen test kit and medication delivery service, with an extension of the service until the end of April.

Launching COVID-19 Outpatient Service

Our 24-hour Emergency and Outpatient Department has been providing outpatient care to COVID-19 patients with mild symptoms and patients with other medical needs. In a bid to allow COVID-19 patients to receive care in a more efficient and smoother manner, our COVID-19 Outpatient Service is launched today for people who tested positive in rapid antigen tests or nucleic acid tests in the past 14 days with mild respiratory tract symptoms.
