5th anniversary staff sharing series – “My memorable moments at GHK”
Message from CEO

Dear Colleagues,

Year 2022 marks not only our 5th anniversary but also the first time that we present our Five Years of Service Award to our colleagues. A couple of weeks ago I had the privilege of celebrating this great moment with about 300 “GHK pioneers” who have been members of this big family for five years. Building something from scratch is never an easy task, and I believe the drive behind that was their passion, perseverance and a strong will to succeed. While we cannot thank our colleagues enough for the hard work and contributions they have made for GHK, I hope they like that gift we have especially designed and prepared for them and they will keep it as a memento. As we move on to our next development stage, I look forward to celebrating more five years of service with all of you!

As one of the research sites of The University of Hong Kong (HKU), our active participation in clinical research and trials has been ongoing. We are pleased to have the opportunity to contribute to the continuous research and development of COVID-19 vaccines, and earlier this month, we collaborated with SINOVAC and the HKU Clinical Trials Centre to kick off a clinical trial of an Omicron-specific inactivated vaccine for booster use in Hong Kong. This clinical trial, led by HKU’s medical research team, is in sound progress at GHK.

We probably would have noticed the bright and newly-renovated Clinic B which is now in a better shape to meet the increasing demand for our specialist outpatient services. Through combining and re-designing Clinics A, B and C, the new clinic brings to our patients a more spacious environment and a more work-efficient layout for our colleagues to deliver even better service experiences.

Amid the steadily rising number of COVID-19 cases locally, we have continued with our risk reviews, ensuring that our policies and measures will allow patients to receive the best possible care from us without compromising the safety of our staff, patients and visitors. In light of the recent situation, the authorities have re-opened some of the holding centres for elderly patients with mild symptoms, including the Shek Kip Mei Park Sports Centre for which GHK has urgently set up a medical service team to provide support. I send my appreciation to our colleagues and doctor volunteers for their swift and professional support to the initiative.

To protect ourselves in the changing situations, please be reminded to continue to stay alert and vigilant at all times. And if you need any support in your work fighting the virus, please voice out and we will be there for you.

Contributing to COVID-19 vaccine research and development

GHK joins hands with The University of Hong Kong (HKU) Clinical Trials Centre and SINOVAC to kick off a clinical trial of an Omicron-specific inactivated vaccine for booster use in Hong Kong. The clinical trial aims to assess the safety and immunogenicity of the SINOVAC’s Omicron COVID-19 vaccine used as a booster shot in healthy adults, hoping to provide scientific evidence for future immunisation strategy.

As one of the research sites of HKU, we are pleased to be part of this clinical trial project and contribute to the continuous research and development of vaccines to help enhance health protection for people.

If you are interested in learning more about this clinical trial, please click here. For enrollment, please call 6925 6281 or email to pollpang@hku.hk.

Service experience enhanced with newly-renovated Clinic B

Congratulations to colleagues of the newly-refurbished Clinic B!

Located at its same location on G/F of Tower B, the new Clinic B has combined the services previously provided at Clinics A, B and C, offering General Surgery, General Medicine, and Behavioural Health services to patients with a more spacious and user-friendly environment. With the clinic’s design and layout thoughtfully reconfigured, our staff are able to provide an even more seamless service experience for more patients.

Thank you for your 5 years of devoted service!

Riding on the 5th anniversary of GHK, a 5 Years of Service Award Presentation was staged to express our thankfulness to about 300 colleagues who joined us on or before 31 March 2017.

We were delighted to have brought together many of our pioneers on the occasion to celebrate this joyous and memorable moment! Our CEO Dr Kenneth Tsang took the opportunity to thank staff for their dedicated service and contribution to GHK since the time when GHK was still under commissioning. As a small token of appreciation, a commemorative gold coin was presented to each of our awardees.

A big “Thank You” again to all of our awardees! We look forward to celebrating more 5 years with all of you!

First episode of “Speak Your Mind”

We hope that you have enjoyed watching the first edition of “Speak Your Mind”, with our CEO
Dr Kenneth Tsang addressing the questions received from you.

It was encouraging to see the enthusiasm colleagues have shown in submitting their questions which touched on a diverse range of topics. We were also grateful to see colleagues sharing their suggestions and ideas with a keen intention to help GHK enhance its service quality and care for patients.

Please keep your questions and ideas coming and look out for the next round of invitation for submission later in the year! Having said that, if you have any burning questions or great ideas, please do send them to ghktownhall@gleneagles.hk or reach out to your supervisors anytime.

And congratulations to colleagues who have won the prizes for submitting the most thoughtful questions or suggestions!

Here is the video again in case you have missed it.

Recent happenings at GHK

Thumbs up for Food & Beverage cleaning team!

Congratulations to our F&B cleaning team, awardees of the recent “On-the-spot Recognition”!

Since GHK has participated in the Government’s food-waste-to-energy programme, our F&B cleaning team has taken up the extra work of food waste separation to facilitate the efficient and effective processing and collection of in-house food waste behind the scenes.

A big round of applause for all our deserving colleagues who have helped GHK contribute to a greener environment!

“My memorable moments at GHK”

My five “Mosts” at GHK
Joyce Ma | Physiotherapist I, Rehabilitation Centre

The most memorable
I joined the Rehabilitation Centre in September 2016. It was remarkable to witness GHK developing from a construction site and progressing to the soft opening and grand opening. Seeing how the different software and hardware were continuously reviewed and enhanced, the overcoming of the insufficiencies during the early stages, and the bringing of GHK on track for development was a satisfying experience. It was the very first time in my career to be part of the establishment of a brand-new hospital.

The proudest
I am always proud to be able to use my professional knowledge to help others. For instance, I had the opportunity to hold Manual Handling Operations workshop for our new nurses and healthcare assistants. I believe that these skills are of paramount importance to reducing workplace injuries among our colleagues.

The most thankful
I thank the teams of surgical and medical wards for having worked closely with the Rehabilitation Centre throughout these years. Whenever there are patients with special needs, ward nurses would always give us a heads-up. I’m also grateful to our Nursing team for always trying to facilitate our work. Their kind arrangement for a temporary storage space for our walking aids has allowed us to deliver inpatient rehabilitation service more efficiently. These may seem small, but they are showcases of cross-team collaboration.

The most anticipated
Before the pandemic outbreak, I was glad to be invited by GHK Club to host yoga classes for colleagues. I find the classes not only a chance for networking but also a channel through which we can help staff improve their physical and mental health. I very much look forward to offering more relaxing and calming yoga classes when the pandemic subsides. And like many other colleagues, I also look forward to joining the annual dinner again! The retro-themed event a few years back is still such a fun memory!

The thing I want to share with colleagues the most
Always strive to go an extra mile in our work and make an effort to communicate with colleagues. Very often, a brief reminder is powerful enough to make each other’s work easier or even prevent mistakes.
