Message from Chief Executive Officer

Dear colleagues,

Over the years, our obstetrics and gynaecology services have won the hearts of many new parents. Our commitment to embracing high-touch and personalised approach in our care for expectant parents and babies has received further recognition in our recent winning of the “Family Top Brand 2023: Obstetrics and Gynaecology Services”. Kudos to our O&G team!

Leveraging our close partnership with various doctors and The University of Hong Kong, we have been working hard to build our capacity in providing advanced healthcare services and introducing novel technologies and treatment protocols to our patients. Our inaugural Gleneagles Clinical Updates Symposium held earlier this month offered an excellent platform for the directors of our 13 Specialist Service Centres to showcase the latest clinical development of their respective Centres and initiate insightful discussions with other participants. With the prime objective of providing the best possible patient care, I am excited about further broadening and deepening our exploration and collaboration with our doctors.

Further to our previous clinical trial with Sinovac, we have embarked on another trial of a COVID-19 DNA vaccine with HKU Clinical Trials Centre and Immuno Cure. The project will allow us to contribute to the advancement of COVID-19 vaccine research development and induce a positive impact on health protection for all of us. You might have also learnt from recent news coverage that GHK has sealed a partnership with the Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation, which I regard as another major step forward in transforming healthcare and enhancing patient care. With the HKSTP referring to GHK appropriate technology innovators based on our clinical service needs, we aspire to help translate more technological innovations into clinical adoptions which will push patient care to the next level.

As you should have known during the Town Hall meeting, Parkway Laboratory Services Central has come into service as a new member of the Gleneagles brand to provide accurate, high-quality, and efficient laboratory testing and pathology services. This will be followed by a plan to open the first Gleneagles Healthcare clinic in Wong Chuk Hang in Q3 2023 to further strengthen our service network. We are able to do these because you have helped us grow Gleneagles into a reputable brand, and I thank you all for your contribution to this hard-earned achievement.

Warm regards,

The first Gleneagles Clinical Updates Symposium

The inaugural Gleneagles Clinical Updates Symposium was staged on 10 June, providing an open platform for the directors of our 13 Specialist Service Centres to share the latest clinical advancements of their respective Centres, and connecting doctors to exchange insights and engage in broader discussions on clinical updates.

The event not only showcased the very high standards of our services, but also sparked fruitful discussions on how patient care and services can be brought to the next level.

A big “thank you” to all the participants as we continue to work towards the common goal of reshaping private healthcare and bringing the best care to our patients.

Expanding service capacity with new CT scanner

Congratulations to our Radiology team on launching an additional, cutting-edge equipment!

To meet the increasing demand of Computed Tomography (CT) scans, especially on coronary artery scans, we are proud to bring SOMATOM Drive, our third CT scanner, to the department.

With this latest equipment designed to deliver CT scanning services of higher precision, flexibility and efficiency, patients will have access to better diagnosis outcomes and less waiting time.

Further contributing to COVID-19 vaccine research and development

GHK has joined hands with The University of Hong Kong and Immuno Cure BioTech to kick off a clinical trial of ICCOV, a COVID-19 DNA vaccine candidate. The trial aims to evaluate the immunogenicity and safety of ICCOV as a booster vaccine in healthy adults. We are proud to be part of this clinical research study and believe that it will provide valuable clinical data to help the development of novel vaccine technologies and the protection of people’s health.

Transforming and improving patient care through technological innovations

GHK has recently partnered with Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation (HKSTP) to foster technological innovation and facilitate its integration with patient care pathways. Through HKSTP’s MedTech Co-Create Programme, companies offering matching technologies that meet the specified needs of GHK are introduced to the hospital for possible clinical trial and/or adoption.

We believe that the partnership, which combines our medical expertise and clinical research capability with HKSTP’s biomedical technology ecosystem and expert network, will ultimately translate medical technological innovations into impactful healthcare solutions for patients.

Town Hall meeting

At the second Town Hall meeting of the year, staff gathered to hear updates on a spectrum of topics including the newly-launched Parkway Laboratory Services Central, Hong Kong, the upcoming primary care clinic business Gleneagles Healthcare, and the new office in Wong Chuk Hang. Also introduced was the new career pathway of Healthcare Assistants which forms part of the broader strategy for achieving sustainable manpower in the longer run. Staff were also briefed about the upcoming preparation work for the Australian Council on Healthcare Standards International (ACHSI) accreditation. We continued to promote the culture of embracing excellent service and presented Service Champions awards for Q1 2023 to three colleagues at the Town Hall.

Staff medical benefit case sharing

The new staff medical benefit plan has been offering staff and their families a number of enhanced benefits. Under the new scheme, staff can enjoy free choices of doctors, and their spouses and children can enjoy individual medical expense coverage. Claims under Hospitalisation and Surgical Benefits have been upgraded to a per year per disability basis. Supplementary Major Medical Benefits are also introduced to offer a more comprehensive coverage to staff.

We are pleased to receive positive feedback from our colleagues and would like to share with you a couple of case sharing.

Sharing 1:
“I underwent a surgery due to an illness and I was delighted that the final reimbursement amount exceeded $80,000 with 90% of the expenses successfully claimed. This really was beyond my expectation.

I received the reimbursement without a hassle in two to three weeks by simply submitting the relevant documents through the myBupa mobile app.

Moreover, this claim did not affect the benefits and claim quota of my dependents and they continued to seek consultations and claim for reimbursement when needed.”

Sharing 2:
“My stomach had been feeling unwell for a while. I went to a HealthNet doctor for consultation with the $20 co-payment.

After assessing my condition, the doctor suggested arranging an endoscopy and diagnostic imaging for further investigation. I was able to apply for pre-authorisation and got an approval from Bupa. All my check-ups related to this condition were fully covered by the medical plan.

I was delighted that I could choose the doctor and medical centre I preferred under the Bupa HealthNet for all the check-ups, and I only needed to pay $20 for the whole process.”
Supporting the underserved

GHK joined hands with “Food Angel” in a meal preparation volunteering activity on 17 June.

A team of our staff volunteers put on gloves and aprons and prepared about 3,300 sets of cook-chill meals and soup which were subsequently delivered to the elderly and the underserved in our community.

Our heartfelt gratitude to our volunteers for their benevolence and contribution.
