Message from Chief Executive Officer

Dear Colleagues,

I hope you have had a chance to spend some quality time with your family and friends during the Christmas holiday. At GHK, we welcomed back an array of Christmas celebrations after a long hiatus, and I was pleased to learn that many of us shared joy and laughter together as we were approaching the end of the year.

I look back on the important milestones we made in Year 2023 with pride. During the year we expanded our service network through the launch of the Parkway Laboratory Services Central and the first clinic of Gleneagles Healthcare. To raise our day service capability and capacity, space reconfiguration for 1/F of our hospital was conducted progressively. These changes have allowed us to house a new Dialysis Centre which is expected to become operational in January 2024. Simultaneously, we have made steady progress in tapping into the Greater Bay Area via establishing strategic partnerships with healthcare providers in the Mainland and providing quality care to Mainland patients referred to us. And last but definitely not least, we have recently been accredited by the Australian Council on Healthcare Standards (ACHS) International for the second time. I see this a testament to our attainment of high standards across a wide spectrum of our hospital services and patient care. My appreciation to you all for making these happen and for your continuous pursuit of excellence.

You probably should have received the good news that starting from 1 January 2024, we will be bringing to you a few new benefits including the newly-introduced birthday leave, the enhanced annual leave scheme for Junior General Staff and Enrolled Nurses, and the extended compassionate leave. I do hope you can feel the efforts we made in caring for your wellbeing. Things may not yet be perfect, but we will continue to understand your needs and make GHK a place that all staff will be proud to be part of. Meanwhile, I call on your support to invite your friends and people around you who are looking to provide excellent patient care in a fulfilling environment to join our GHK family.

We will be ushering in 2024 in a couple of days. I am all excited about further growing our services under the Gleneagles brand in different parts of the city and making the best of the many opportunities both locally and beyond. The year ahead will bring its own challenges, yet, I’m sure that our professionalism and unique strengths will earn us more success and more trust from our patients, partners and the wider community!

May the New Year bring you and your family prosperity and new hopes!

Warm regards,

Attaining second full accreditation from ACHS International
We are proud to share that GHK has recently been accredited by the Australian Council on Healthcare Standards (ACHS) International! It is the second time GHK achieves this recognition following its first accreditation in 2019.

The attainment is a testament to our hospital’s high performance against the Evaluation & Quality Improvement Program (EQuIP7) Core Standards and Hospital Standards and its commitment to ensuring safe and high-quality patient care. Our heartfelt gratitude goes to the core team, Criteria Champions and all colleagues who were contributed to the preparation exercise.

Fostering continuous improvement in clinical safety
with Hong Kong College of Anaesthesiologists

Striving to achieve continuous improvement for the benefit of patients, GHK organised its first Advanced Sedation Safety Workshop in collaboration with the Hong Kong College of Anaesthesiologists (HKCA) to refresh our doctors on safe practices in clinical sedation. We were pleased to have instructors from the HKCA who rendered the training through various workshops including interactive and training stations, problem-based discussions and simulations to achieve a fruitful learning and knowledge exchange among the participants.

Exchanging insights on healthcare investment and innovation at Hong Kong Forum

Earlier this month, GHK participated in the Hong Kong Forum hosted by the Government to exchange thoughts and industry experience with business executives and professionals from around the world.

At a panel discussion session on healthcare investment and innovation, our CEO Dr Kenneth Tsang detailed some of our hospital’s efforts in adopting health technologies and innovative equipment to push patient care, clinical outcomes and service experience to the next level. On top of exchanged insights into the emerging trends of healthcare innovation, Dr Tsang shared the hospital's aspiration to foster healthcare advancement and the translation of innovations to clinical adoption via participating in various clinical research projects in partnership with The University of Hong Kong and other health technology innovators and biotech companies.

Sending Christmas blessings to sick children

Christmas is a time for giving. This year, we extended our festive blessings to sick children and their families in collaboration with the Children’s Palliative Care Foundation under the Children’s Cancer Foundation.

A group of 20 colleagues served as “Secret Santas” to prepare Christmas gifts according to the wish list of children suffering from life-threatening diseases. The gifts were made personalised with hand-written personal messages from our volunteers.

May our love and blessings bring hope and joy for the children and their families at this Christmas.

Counting down to Christmas with sweet treats

At this special time of year, we showed our care and well-wishing to all those we treasure. Recently, a Christmas chocolate advent calendar was prepared for our staff as a small token of appreciation for their hard work and dedication throughout the year.

Wishing everyone a sweet and joyful Christmas!
