Message from Chief Executive Officer

Dear Colleagues,

Gleneagles is honoured to have the opportunity to play our part in supporting the Hong Kong Team in the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games by becoming part of the delegation’s medical team. The medical team, led by Dr Joe Law our Consultant in Emergency Medicine and supported by other allied health volunteers, is all set to provide professional medical support to our athletes throughout the journey. My best wishes to our doctor, the Hong Kong Team and all athletes in the Games!

A few months ago, we joined hands with a social enterprise Silveriders to launch a community brain health education campaign. The first community health talk was proven a great and welcoming start. To enhance public awareness of mild cognitive impairment and the importance of early detection and treatment for the disease, a roadshow cum Alzheimer’s Disease questionnaire screening was held in South Horizons to engage residents in the area and offer them health education on how they might follow up on their conditions based on the outcomes of the on-site screening.

Our service network in Hong Kong has continued to expand. An obstetrics and gynaecology specialist centre has been set up in Gleneagles Medical Clinic Central lately, further complementing our existing services at the Clinic. With the opening of the Gleneagles Primo Surgical Centre next month, patients requiring minor surgical procedures will have the additional option to undergo the procedure in New World Tower in Central. In the next few months, we will be gradually opening more service points including a new Gleneagles Healthcare clinic. I look forward to sharing more updates with you soon!

To further foster the integration of healthcare services in the Greater Bay Area (GBA), we have recently signed a collaborative agreement with Shenzhen Qianhai Taikang Hospital on providing high-quality and comprehensive healthcare services to patients in the mainland. Whilst bringing the two parties together in the realms of talent nurturing, knowledge exchange, teleconsultation and patient referral and more, I hope that the partnership will further promote cross-boundary medical cooperation and introduce our brand to the wider community in the GBA.

Warm regards,

Promoting healthcare improvement at international forum

GHK was privileged to have participated in the recent International Forum on Quality & Safety in Healthcare staged in Hong Kong. The three-day conference offered healthcare leaders and professionals from around the world to exchange knowledge and insights and discuss ideas related to a wide spectrum of topics on patient safety and quality improvement.

At the breakfast session “A tale of 2 cities – Hospital accreditation in Hong Kong and Shanghai”, our CEO Dr Kenneth Tsang compared our hospital’s experiences in participating in the two international accreditation schemes, namely the Australian Council on Healthcare Standards (ACHS) International and the new China’s International Hospital Accreditation (CIHA) Standards (2021 Version), and some of our current learnings and observations in going through the CIHA exercise.

Also shared by Dr Tsang in another session “Private vs public healthcare provision” were insights into the dynamics between Hong Kong’s public and private sectors under the dual-track healthcare system, as well as our efforts in contributing to filling the gaps between the two sectors to achieve a more balanced healthcare system.

Dr Joe Law, our Consultant in Emergency Medicine and Team Physician of the Hong Kong, China Delegation, leads the medical team comprising other allied health volunteers to provide professional medical support to our athletes throughout the Games. Education roadshow to raise public awareness of
mild cognitive impairment
As a sequel to our first community health talk on mild cognitive impairment (MCI), we teamed up social enterprise Silveriders again to host a brain health education roadshow in South Horizons earlier this month. On top of providing information on MCI and the importance of early screening and treatment, free screening adopting the AD8 dementia questionnaire was offered to members of the public to help identify people who may have presented symptoms of MCI.

Extending the reach of our services in the GBA
