Dear colleagues,
In July we continued to welcome more new doctors in various specialties to GHK. The steady and continuous inflow of quality doctors has kept us on track to build a broader base which will be essential to meet the increasing service demands and planned service expansion. Just recently, expansion plans for the Cardiology Clinic and Health Screening Centre have been confirmed. We will be sharing more on this and other updates with you at the upcoming town hall.
Also some exciting news related to our mission to bring more training opportunities to health care professionals: after starting training for medical students in February this year, we have made a step further in contributing to the training and development of medical professionals. In partnership with The University of Hong Kong, a higher training programme has been started for specialist trainees in Orthopaedics from Queen Mary Hospital who will be seconded to GHK as resident trainees. We hope that there will be more to follow in the next years.
Our workplace should also provide opportunities for informal get-togethers and have some fun. Therefore, I am particularly pleased to see that GHK Club has kept the momentum going after the debut “cookie baking” activity and recently hosted “GHK Cup – Soccer Sevens”. I am glad to hear that these staff activities have been well received and hope that you will take these chances to get to know other teams more and build connections with others within and across departments. The club has my full support and I look forward to a range of future activities!
In the next month or so, I will be inviting all of you to take part in a culture survey to help assess if we are on track in achieving our desired culture shift and how far we have progressed since last year. Besides the survey, we will also be conducting a 360 assessment in which a selection of staff will be invited to give feedback on how different departments are living GHK's values. I hope that you will give your candid feedback in the above surveys such that we can identify and focus on the areas that need more attention.
One area where we still have room for improvement is in service delivery. While the vast majority of our patients is satisfied with our services (as evidenced by our very high Net Promotor Score, a measure of patient satisfaction), we have also had some service lapses and incidents we need to learn from. We are putting in place plans to address those and will be sharing some of the priorities during the upcoming town hall.
In the coming month, we will have our ACHS “gap analysis” diagnostic, when a team of auditors will visit the hospital to determine how “ready” we are and what priorities we should address. Please make sure you are informed of what this is all about and what is expected of you.
Next month we will also have a “VMV” theme month to help reinforce internal awareness of our Vision, Mission and cultural Values, ie Teamwork, Respect, Understanding, Service Attitude and Taking Initiative. A number of initiatives will be rolled out in the next few weeks so please help spread the words to your fellow colleagues and participate actively in the activities. To turn the values into positive changes, I encourage all of you to think a bit deeper into how you can live those values in your daily work and interaction with other teams. It is in your hands what kind of workplace GHK will become – so looking forward to your support to make this the best place to work in Hong Kong!

|
Congratulations to GHK for being recognised as one of the "2017 Best 50 Hospitals in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area"!
The ranking was given by healthcare management and research centre Asclepius Healthcare. Assessed based on medical expertise, resource allocation, hospital operation and academic influence data, which was collected from integrated hospitals and traditional Chinese medicine hospitals in nine cities and two special administrative regions in Guangdong, Hong Kong, Macau and the Greater Bay Area, GHK is ranked 26th among the top 50 hospitals.
Despite that we are new hospital in Hong Kong, it is encouraging to see GHK being named as one of the best hospitals in the region. With our professional and dedicated team, GHK is poised to reap continuous improvements as we learn from our patients, doctors and other stakeholders.

Helping make sick children’s dreams come true
|
|
|
|
We care for our patients, we also care for other needy groups in the community. GHK supported Make-A-Wish Hong Kong, a charity organisation which raises funds for critically ill children to make their dreams come true, by staging a game booth at Wish Carnival on 8 July 2018 as one of the event star sponsors. The game booth attracted some 400 people who received health information through playing our educational games and took home GHK souvenirs. GHK Chief Operating Officer Dr Alexander Chiu received a certificate of appreciation at the event opening ceremony.
