Message from CEO

Dear colleagues,

August was a busy month for many of us as we prepared for and completed the readiness diagnostic survey for ACHS accreditation. The 5-day journey has helped us get a more realistic picture of how ready we are for the accreditation. They have given us clear feedback and points to focus on. Many of the suggestions have to do with the phase we are in as a hospital. I noted that many of you have proactively prepared additional presentations for the surveyors to help them understand the work we have done under the different criteria. This has been extremely helpful and much appreciated. All in all, I think we can be proud of how far we have come, and my assessment is we are well positioned to undergo the accreditation survey in about 12 months’ time. A special thanks goes to Cinder’s QSR team for the coordination and preparation. I would like to thank all of our colleagues for your great effort and well done! The next step will be to plan for tackling the key improvement areas over the next year or so. I look forward to working closely with you on making ourselves fully geared up for the real thing!

This month, we also saw activities which aimed to reinforce internal awareness of our Vision, Mission and Values (VMV). I’m pleased to see some keen staff participation in the VMV-themed activities.  I hope that by now, you are at least more aware of our five cultural values ie, Teamwork, Respect, Understanding, Service Attitude and Take Initiative. My appeal to you is to try and proactively translate these values into actions in our interaction with internal teams and patients. While many of our colleagues go to great lengths to do exactly this, there are unfortunately still too many instances where we do not see departments constructively working together and displaying the sort of trust that we aspire to with these values. But this doesn’t stop us from pursuing the culture we wanted and looking harder into what else can be done to achieve this.  Related to this, you should have noted my invitation to all of you to complete the GHK Culture Survey. The survey will help us assess how far we have progressed a year after implementing the different efforts we made to shift ourselves towards “TRUST”. Please make the effort to send in the survey and tell us if we have been working on the right focus and what else should also be addressed.

Although we are steadily building up our patient base and our brand, we are still new to many. At this stage of ramping up, we are keen to encourage more people to try our services and to get their buy-in and trust with our good services and environment. Starting next month, we will launch a new “First Experience Referral Scheme” through which staff and doctors can refer patients who are first-time GHK clients to enjoy discounts on our services. We will share with you the details of the scheme very soon. Related to our ramping up of services, we also need more colleagues to join us. It is proving to be quite hard to find the right sort of people to join us. Can I ask all of you to reach out to former colleagues and friends to join us – we also launched a referral programme to reward referring colleagues who bring in good future colleagues. You are all needed to help GHK grow in both patients and colleagues – please support the hospital to successfully realise this growth!

And before wrapping up this eventful month, I would like to share some great news with you. Our Dr Tse Tak Sun, Director of Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory and Honorary Consultant in Cardiology, has been awarded the “16th World Outstanding Chinese Award” for his great achievements in the medical profession and distinguished contributions to the Chinese society. We are indeed proud to have Dr Tse as one of our close partners in our quest of providing excellent care to patients. Please join me to send our warmest congratulations to Dr Tse!

A big step forward in achieving ACHS accreditation

We made a major step forward as we completed the on-site readiness diagnostic survey for the Australian Council on Healthcare Standards (ACHS) accreditation.

The completion of the on-site survey represented a major milestone in the accreditation process and all teams at GHK have come a long way since the process was kicked off in December last year. A number of exercises, including self-assessment, small group discussions, daily helpful tips, pre-survey talks were arranged by our Quality Safety & Risk Management Department to help prepare our criteria champions for inspection and possible questions by the surveyors.

The 5-day on-site survey was an interactive and fruitful process during which valuable comments, insights and recommendations were received from the surveyors in the debriefing sessions. The summation conference on the last day marked a successful completion of the exercise. Upon receiving the full recommendation report from the surveyors in a couple of months, we will move to the next step of focusing on the key improvement areas before we enter ourselves to the accreditation examinations in 2019.

Third Town Hall meeting

GHK had its third town hall meeting for the year on 3 August during which our CEO Mr Dirk Schraven and relevant heads of departments shared with staff updates on various topics. On top of an overview of business performance in the past few months, staff also received the latest information on topics such as the hospital’s talent recruitment strategy to cope with service ramp-up, expansion plans for Cardiology Clinic and Health Screening Centre, office relocation for support teams, ACHS on-site survey preparation, and key areas that we can improve on related to incidents.

During different occasions and through different channels, staff’s views on hospital operation and other work and staff-related topics are taken. At the town hall, Management team took the opportunity to address some of questions that have been most commonly raised and gave candid feedback.

For the first time, we closed the meeting with a bit of fun and sweetness. A mini cake-cutting celebration for our “birthday stars” of July, August and September was arranged - a joyous moment for all amid our busy schedules!

Thank you all for supporting GHK’s first VMV Month!

Did you have some fun in our first VMV (Vision, Mission & Values) Month? Designed to enhance internal awareness of our TRUST values, ie. Teamwork, Respect, Understanding, Service Attitude and Taking Initiative, a spectrum of activities was organised for everyone to participate, they included souvenirs for all staff, VMV Menu @ Gleneagles Bistro, bakery classes, photo competition, and voting for the best “TRUST cakes”.

We greatly appreciate your active participation and support to the VMV initiatives and hope you found them enjoyable. Let’s live these values together and make GHK the best workplace for all of us!

Stay tuned for a video of VMV Month highlights! Meanwhile, here are some of the highlights of the activities:
