Dear colleagues,
I hope that all of you had a good time at the earlier Christmas lunch and dinner buffet. I personally enjoyed the opportunity to have lunch and some casual chats with some colleagues on the occasion.
2018 is indeed a year that we all should be proud of because we have achieved a number of real milestones together. You would probably agree with me that the hospital is getting busier and busier, and this is because our patient volume in 2018 has more than doubled compared with last year’s. This year, we have sold almost 1,000 medical packages which is three times the number we had last year. We are seeing clear signs that the hospital is getting increased traction and doctors are coming back more and more often. Your professional patient care is well appreciated as evidenced by the high scores and many compliments from patients. Despite being a new hospital, we are able to take care of complex cases, an example of which is the first HIPEC procedure for ovarian cancer in Hong Kong which was performed at GHK early this year. I am pleased that since then patients have been enquiring about this treatment and have chosen to have it done here at GHK. I thank you all for making these achievements possible with your hard work and dedication.
Behind these successes I am fully aware that some of you were facing issues related to manpower, complex workflows and cross-department communication and collaboration. To make sure that we will be able to operate efficiently and have the capacity to meet increasing demand, we will continue to tackle them in the coming year, and many improvements are already being implemented. Some initiatives are covered in the strategic goals and action plans I shared with you at the recent town hall. Once they are finalised, they will be further communicated to you via respective department heads.
2019 will be another exciting year for us. We will be actively gearing up to provide more services and work towards our vision of bringing transparent and innovative healthcare services to Hong Kong. Some key initiatives in the pipeline include opening our first satellite clinic, launching our inpatient psychiatry service, offering another 100 or so new packages, and launching more specialty centres in line with the clinical focus we have chosen to develop. Equal emphasis will be placed on the priorities of developing staff, ensuring safe and quality care and further improving our services to patients and doctors.
GHK is blessed with great people, expertise and facilities, and I strongly believe that we are fulfilling a real market need. Therefore, GHK’s potential is there for us to realise. I see the journey of introducing innovative concepts and services to Hong Kong’s healthcare scene as a very worthwhile one and sincerely hope that you will all join me to make GHK one of the best hospitals in the city as well as one of the best places to work in.
Thank you again for your contributions in the past year. I wish you all a very happy Christmas and a fantastic New Year ahead!

Joint Replacement Centre now in operation

GHK’s newly opened Joint Replacement Centre has helped over 100 patients get back to their active lives with its Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) approach in joint replacement surgeries.
Led by a team of professor and specialists from The University of Hong Kong, the Centre adopts fast-track arthroplasty and rehabilitation, which results in less surgery time, less pain, earlier mobilisation and quicker recovery. Patients receive holistic care from the Centre, supported by a multi-disciplinary team of specialists in orthopaedics, pain management, physiotherapy, dietetics etc. In a recent media event, the team presented the successful adoption of ERAS at GHK and remarkable results in achieving speedy patient recovery in which all patients could stand or even walk on the next day after the procedure!

A warm and joyous Christmas celebration at GHK!
Over 500 colleagues celebrated GHK’s second Christmas together with festive lunch and dinner buffets at Gleneagles Bistro on 20 December. Kudos to Human Resources Department and Food & Beverage Department for the great arrangements. And of course, Christmas parties would not be complete without games and photos. Take a look at some of the joyful moments!
May your Christmas be filled with plenty of love and happiness!

Colleagues from different departments spent a wonderful Saturday afternoon along with their family members at a BBQ party organised by GHK Club. While enjoying the much-enjoyed barbecue food, colleagues also got to know and make friends with each other around the grills.
A note of thanks to the committee members of GHK Club who volunteered to arrange this wonderful event and other previous activities in their spare time.

Want to be part of the team? Sign up with Raymond Chai of F&B Department to turn your great ideas into a variety of fun activities to foster internal bond-building. Meanwhile, if you have any ideas, do share them with the organising committee!
