Dear colleagues,
In May and June, with your great efforts, we continued to see positive patient feedback and sustained growth in patient volumes in most areas and managed to hit a number of all-time highs in inpatient admission, outpatient visit, day case, endoscopy, radiology and CVL in May 2019. These couldn’t have been possible without your excellent teamwork and persistent efforts at all times. My appreciation goes to all of you!
The provision of medical treatments to demonstrators has recently aroused a lot of discussions. Although GHK did not receive a large influx of patients during the period, I would like to make clear that in all circumstances, providing required care is our top priority and as always, we provide treatments to all patients based on their clinical needs and conditions, no matter their background or circumstances. To our frontline teams, thanks for being highly proactive in making ourselves ready for the possible surge in patients arising from last weeks’ events.
As our services continue to ramp up, ensuring that our nursing and support manpower also increases in tandem with the rise in patient volume remains at the top of our agenda. At the moment, we unfortunately need to sometimes decline admission requests from clinics and our A&E, which is preventing us from providing good patient service. A number of measures have been taken to encourage staff to introduce nurses to join us as well as to increase our attractiveness as a prospective employer in the market. Other than the referral incentive scheme, we have recently reviewed and adjusted the annual leave plan for nurses and allied health staff, bringing us more in line with and I believe quite attractive compared to other market players. We are also reviewing the recent HA compensation adjustments on support staff and will likely communicate our planned adjustments soon. We have also gathered staff feedback on many issues such as rostering, workplace environment etc and are in the process of implementing many valuable suggestions, as also communicated during last Town Hall meeting. This month we are also hosting a recruitment day in Causeway Bay, and I would like to take this opportunity to thank the different teams which have participated in organising and promoting this event.
It is encouraging to see that utilisation of our packages continues to be on a rise and more and more doctors are recommending our packages to patients. While we always look to expand our portfolio of packages, we have also been exploring way to make packages applicable to more patients. With the recent approval from the Food and Health Bureau’s on introducing individualised/customised packages, we aim to enhance the flexibility of our packages to help us better cater to patients’ conditions and needs which may not be fully met by the current standard packages. Relevant teams are working on the implementation details of this new type of packages and we will share with you more information in due course.
Developing more specialty centres is one of the priorities in our 3-year strategic plan and we have continued to make progress in realising this goal. Following the launch of the Joint Replacement Centre, we will be launching in July the Spine Centre which adopts a professorial-led and team-based model in collaboration with The University of Hong Kong. In the meantime, we have also received approvals from the Medical Council of Hong Kong to establish a few more specialty centres including the Musculoskeletal Tumour Centre and Kidney Stone Centre. Capitalising on the experience and expertise from some of our University professors and our highly specialised sessional doctors, it is our aim that GHK gradually builds its capacity and reputation as a hospital that is capable of performing highly-specialised procedures in certain specialties and sub-specialties.
Warmest congratulations again to Kimmy from endoscopy centre, Daniel from pharmacy and the nursing team from Orthopaedic Surgery Clinic who are voted the best “GHK Role Models”! These colleagues have demonstrated vividly the values and desired behaviours that we strive to encourage. They have certainly gone beyond their call of duty, took initiative and sought cooperation across departments and should be proud of this recognition. I hope that our role models will also play as our culture ambassadors and bring about a demonstrating effect among all colleagues in GHK. Please keep the spirit going, and hopefully, we will see more and more role models thriving in GHK, building our TRSUT culture.

Gearing up for “War Game Fun Day”
|
|
|
|
Organised by GHK Club, the first session of the War Game Fun Day was held on 23 June. Colleagues joined this indoor event and playfully competed against each other. Geared up in their combat outfit, colleagues had great fun and excitement in the games under the thematically designed ambience. For those who are joining the second and last War Game Fun Day session on 29 June, have fun!

We Share, We TRUST
Meet our best GHK Role Models and see how they feel about receiving the awards.
"I have never thought that I would be nominated as a GHK Role Model, not to mention being voted to be the top three. It is encouraging and motivating and I’m grateful for this recognition."
"I see 'Teamwork' as the most important among our TRUST values. It is understandable that a new hospital faces some challenges in its early stages, but we should stay positive, because there are always more solutions than problems. It will also create a happier work environment if we all work together and sort things out."
— Kimmy Chan, Endoscopy
"It is my great pleasure to have become one of the best GHK Role Models. I would like to thank everyone who voted for me and my nominator, Carol."
"I believe in our TRUST values and find them indispensable. 'Teamwork' is really important as it facilitates our work and fosters cooperation among departments; 'Respect' also applies to our colleagues who are as valuable as patients; 'Understanding' the situations of our patients and colleagues always bring mutual benefits; 'Service attitude' is essential in enhancing social interaction; and 'Taking initiative' makes every step of our service more customer and staff-orientated, which is a great step towards success."
"Let’s live the five TRUST values together to provide professional medical services to our customers, while building a friendly work environment!"
— Daniel Lau, Pharmacy
"We are happy and honoured to have received this recognition and support from fellow colleagues of different departments."
"We will continue to take good care of our patients while bearing in mind our TRUST values as these play an important role in our jobs. We would like to encourage all colleagues to work hard together and live the values other than taking care of patients wholeheartedly, because our patients do feel and appreciate our efforts and passion."
