Dear Colleagues,
I hope that you had the opportunity to celebrate Christmas in good spirits with your colleagues, friends and family, and that you had fun in the Christmas party and games we organised for you earlier in the month.
As we enjoyed the festive season, GHK also celebrated more new milestones in December. Not long after we opened our expanded Health Screening Centre, which now has doubled the space than before and offers an even nicer environment for patients, we also celebrated the opening of the long-anticipated Orthopaedic Ward with our team of doctors, nurses and ward support staff. You will be pleased to know that the new Health Screening Centre is well liked by our patients, and our Orthopaedic Ward has been receiving a very good number of patients.
You would probably agree with me that was a fruitful year for all of us at GHK. We have been through many remarkable developments such as launching new services and specialty centres, performing innovative procedures, making significant improvement to a number of workflows, and securing exceptionally high score on customer loyalty. Although there were also some less favourable situations, overall, we achieved a great deal on many fronts including the recent ACHS accreditation - a spectacular achievement you should all be proud of! My appreciation to you all for making these happen and delivering your professionalism in all circumstances.
As we are ushering in the New Year, it’s an opportune time to look ahead and think about what 2020 may unveil. As shared with you at the recent town hall meeting, we will be focusing on a few key priorities next year. Firstly, we will strive to work better together, and this include fostering better work processes and environment, strengthening staff engagement and a culture of collaboration, and improving service quality to patients and work experience for our colleagues. Dedicated teams will also actively help GHK to return to growth, they will be applying targeted growth strategies to our chosen segments, engaging more doctors, implementing more effective marketing, and developing stronger digital patient experience. Thirdly, we will look for means to make GHK more cost efficient, reduce waste, and add more resources to areas where we see growth prospects.
I am all excited about further building upon the strong foundation you have built and making the best of the many opportunities waiting for us. The year ahead will bring its own challenges, however, I’m sure that by continuing to work closely together as one team, staying focused on our priorities and always putting patients’ needs first, we will realise our goals and achieve more success!
Thank you for your great support to GHK in the past year. May the New Year bring you and your family prosperity and new hopes!
Dirk Schraven
Chief Executive Officer

Opening of Orthopaedic Ward and new Health Screening Centre – enhancing our capacity to meet patients’ needs
|
|
|
Congratulations to colleagues in Orthopaedics and Health Screening for the facilities recently opened to meet increasing service demand!
With a floor area which has been doubled, the expanded Health Screening Centre is now in operation. Patients can now enjoy a more comfortable environment and better service experience at the newly renovated clinic. The nicely-fitted VIP rooms offer a further option for patients who prefer greater privacy. Relocated to G/F of Tower B, the Centre will continue to provide a variety of comprehensive and quality health screening services to patients.
Adding to our greater service capacity was the opening of Orthopaedic Ward, which complements the services of our Joint Replacement Centre and Spine Centre, offering full-fledged inpatient care for our orthopaedic patients.

Wrapping up 2019 with Town Hall Meeting
|
|
|

GHK has its last town hall meeting of 2019 on 20 December during which our CEO Mr Dirk Schraven, together with relevant team heads, reviewed what the hospital has been through and thanked staff for their continued support and dedication in the year.
Among the topics covered were some of the significant growths we have achieved on various fronts including patient volumes of different services, the number of credentialed doctors, surgery volume, utilisation of all-inclusive packages. Colleagues also received updates on initiatives taken to ensure that we have the right level of manpower to support service growth, appropriate incentives to retain talented staff, and facility improvements made to help create a pleasant and conducive work environment for all staff.
As we approach 2020, Management took stock of the progress made with People, Service, Quality, Growth and Finance under our three-year Strategic Plan, and highlighted to staff our key priorities for the next year.
The year-end town hall was nicely wrapped up by award presentations for Service Champions for Q3 2019, and Hand Hygiene Compliance – Outstanding Performance Awards for Q3 2019. We also took the opportunity to show appreciation to staff volunteers who contributed to the production of promotional videos for an internal flu vaccination programme and other activities that helped promote GHK. A round of applause to all the awardees!
If you did not make it to the meeting, you may want to check out the highlights of the session available on the Intranet.

A warm and joyous Christmas celebration at GHK!
|
|

Over 500 colleagues celebrated GHK’s third Christmas together with festive lunch and dinner buffets at Gleneagles Bistro on 19 December. Kudos to Human Resources Department and Food & Beverage Department for their great arrangements, as always. And of course, Christmas parties would not be complete without games, presents and sweet treats. Take a look at some of the happy moments that colleagues shared together!
