While over 93% of our hospital construction has been completed, we have made at the same time sound progress in various aspects including service development, licensing preparation and stakeholder engagement.
 
High fee transparency and price certainty are two of the key features that will set GHK apart from other private hospitals. With the concept and principles agreed with the relevant authority, we are in the process of developing packaged services that aim to give patients peace of mind. In essence, our packages will focus on the commonly encountered clinical conditions that yet have long queues in the public system. These fixed-price packages are all-inclusive in nature and you will learn a bit more about these in an article that follows.

Licensing inspections scheduled for early next year are our next critical milestone. To allow us to demonstrate our competency in risk and clinical quality management, we appeal to you to familiarise yourselves with the handling of different clinical operations and non-clinical workflows of your respective areas.  We have started conducting various table-top exercises, mock runs and emergency drills. These exercises will help us review our procedures with a fine-tooth comb and look for ways for possible improvement. 

 
GHK values every opportunity to communicate with the community, which is particularly important when we are a new player. In tandem with promulgating our unique features, we have been meeting and exchanging views with different stakeholder groups including, medical associations, patient groups, journalists, district councillors, insurance companies and industry key opinion leaders. Stakeholder engagement is an ongoing effort and we are keen on utilising these insights to help us better meet the public’s needs and expectations and create synergy with the community.

 
GHK introduces concept of medical packages

As part of the exercise to explain to different stakeholders the healthcare services that GHK will deliver to the Hong Kong community, Dr Tan See Leng, Group Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of Parkway Pantai, Mr Tsang Yam Pui, Chief Executive Officer of NWS Holdings Limited, together with GHK’s management team, introduced the concept of medical packages to over 20 local  print media organisations on 24 October 2016.
 

In introducing the package concept which is new to Hong Kong, Dr Tan explained to media how GHK will deliver best-in-class clinical services while helping patients manage costs through our fixed-price packages and transparent pricing.

Mr Tsang Yam Pui shared that over 90% of the construction work of GHK has been completed. He also highlighted the operation efficiency and high patient privacy and comfort GHK will deliver through its thoughtful and patient-centric designs.

Our stakeholder engagement activities will continue in the coming months as we strive to help more people understand who we are and the quality services GHK will provide to Hong Kong.

 
Quick facts about fixed-price packages:
  • All packages provided by GHK are developed in collaboration with the Li Ka Shing Faculty of Medicine of the University of Hong Kong
     
  • Treatment options, patient selection criteria and length of stay are based on input from clinical experts, supported by scientific evidence whenever appropriate
     
  • Around 50 standard packages focusing on low-risks, commonly encountered clinical conditions will be provided when GHK opens. The number will progressively increase to over 150
     
  • Patients discharged within the scheduled length of stay pay only the package price with no additional charges
     
  • The fixed-price standard packages are all-inclusive. The prices include doctor’s professional fee, room charges, diagnostic procedures, treatment procedures, operating theatre charges, anaesthetic fees, nursing care, medications, equipment charges, consumables, implants, registration and admission fees
     
  • The packages cater to complications, including re-operation and ICU care, if such is needed within the prescribed length of stay
     
  • Extension packages charged on a per day basis will be available for patients who need to stay longer than expected
 Embarking on a meaningful journey with GHK
 
In the past months, new staff from various disciplines have been joining GHK to participate in the commissioning project. To help staff gain an understanding of the different aspects of their work life at GHK including policies, operation, staff support and matters that staff should make note of, two rounds of orientation were held in October and November.
 

In both sessions, we were pleased to have Mr Lee Cheow Seng, Deputy Chief Executive Officer, and Dr Alexander Chiu, Chief Operating Officer, to share with us respectively GHK’s corporate overview and clinical operations and risk management.

Other aspects covered included workplace violence and incident management, HR support, code of conduct, general admin and support, brand essence, media enquiries handling, infection control training, and infection prevention and control practices. Also presented was a virtual hospital tour which gave staff an idea of the hospital environment and facilities.


It is hoped that the orientation has not only given staff a good introduction of GHK, but also an understanding of our vision, culture and values.

A brand is not just communicated, and to make it powerful, it must be experienced and promulgated through the services we actually deliver. To this end, we rely on all of our colleagues who will live this manifesto to the full.
