Dear Colleagues,
As Hong Kong braces for the looming fourth wave of the pandemic and the approaching winter influenza season, the city, including GHK, faced an upsurge in demand for flu vaccines earlier in the month. While we are actively liaising with suppliers on the availability of more vaccines to meet patients’ demand amid a city-wide shortage, I would like to reassure you we have secured sufficient stock for staff who have signed up for the flu vaccination programme, which has started as planned.
Since the launch of our new patient app My Gleneagles SmartHealth at end-September, our frontline colleagues of different departments have been making great effort to introduce the app to our patients. Promotions of the app will continue to be rolled out in phases, and we are pleased to learn that the numbers of downloads and registrations have been increasing steadily. While it may take some time and effort to help our patients download and use the app, I hope you all recognise that this app will enable our patients to more conveniently access our services and, in time, make their life easier and our processes more efficient and build brand loyalty. I am aware that many of you have already downloaded the app, but please also take the step to get registered and use it so you can have a fuller experience in using the functions and share your comments for improvement.
We also made some progress in broadening our services in certain specialties. We have seen that many of our patients come to us for help with different pain conditions. Supported by our experts in pain medicine, we have started providing a Pain Clinic service for the management of acute pain, cancer pain and chronic non-cancer pain. We have also strengthened our service in Maternal & Fetal Medicine by adding prenatal screenings such as morphology ultrasound which helps detect congenital malformations. Long awaited by many patients, Radioactive Iodine Therapy has been recently introduced, providing patients who suffer from thyrotoxicosis with an alternative treatment option.
Our new Digital Subtraction Angiography (DSA) Suite in Radiology Department has entered the stage of submitting its licence application. The new suite will allow us to expand our services, including the development of acute and elective endovascular services and more diagnostic (eg. stroke investigations) and treatment options such as radioembolisation for liver cancer patients. The DSA Suite will also offer safer patient care as it will serve as backup support for Cardiac Catheterisation Lab and emergency obstetrics cases. With the Suite taking up some of the procedures currently performed in operating theatres, the theatres will have a greater capacity to cater to other surgical demand.
We have continued to monitor the Government’s latest plans regarding travel bubbles, virus testing requirements and the long-discussed health code system. Preparations related to our workflows, IT systems, manpower, etc are close to completion, and we will be able to implement the corresponding plans and meet service demand in an efficient manner once the relevant Government’s schemes are activated.
Despite that new COVID-19 new cases are still being recorded on daily basis, we have been able to keep our hospital a safe place for all. In the past month or so, GHK did not have any confirmed COVID-19 patient cases, nor did we note any suspected staff sickness patterns. The uncertainties ahead tell us that we should remain prudent with our current infection control measures, and be prepared for any sudden deterioration of the local pandemic situation. Meanwhile, my appreciation to all of you for staying vigilant, professional and supportive at all times.

Chief Executive Officer

More comprehensive services with the new Gleneagles Medical Clinic Central!
|

|
GHK’s satellite clinic, Gleneagles Medical Clinic, Central (GMC), has recently been relocated to New World Tower in Central to accommodate continuous growth in demand for its quality services.
The new clinic provides primary healthcare services including general and specialist outpatient consultation, health screening, vaccination, etc. In addition to having more space and doctors, the clinic is equipped with additional and advanced equipment to allow delivery of more comprehensive diagnostic investigations and treatments.
An informal gathering was hosted to celebrate the clinic’s opening. On the occasion, our CEO Mr Dirk Schraven thanked our strategic partners, doctors, insurance companies, colleagues, etc for their continuous support to GHK and their assistance in making the new GMC up and running within a short period of time.
We look forward to bringing an even better service experience to our patients through the new GMC!

Hats off to our deserving teams!

Since the outbreak of the pandemic, GHK has gone through rounds of implementation of new arrangements to meet the fast-changing situation and sudden surges in demand for certain services such as COVID-19 testing. In all these instances, our various operations teams were there to support. To pay tribute to their exceptional professionalism in addressing the many waves of enquiries from patients, members of the public and doctors, the September 2020 “On-the-spot Recognition” was awarded to Business Office, Bed Management Unit, Service Excellence, and Operator teams!
Without the swift and steadfast support from these teams, we would not have maintained the smooth operation of our hospital amid these challenging times. A big round of applause for all our deserving colleagues!

Since May when our patients have started to return for treatments that were postponed due to the pandemic, our Nursing team has been making great efforts in meeting the increasing inpatient demand while ensuring that patients continue to receive safe and quality services.
Our CEO Mr Dirk Schraven and COO Dr Kenneth Tsang brought surprises to colleagues in various Wards, Critical Care Unit and Nursing Administration with chocolates as a token of appreciation for their devotion to providing the best care to patients.
