Message from CEO –
Embracing a new year with new hope for recovery

Dear Colleagues,

GHK was filled with joy and excitement as we welcomed the first baby of the Year of the Ox in Hong Kong on 12 February. The arrival of GHK’s first baby on the first day of the Lunar New Year was indeed an auspicious and encouraging start for us! I wish to take this opportunity to extend my sincere gratitude to the Obstetrics team for putting their heart and soul into the care for our new mothers and babies. Your excellent service has been earning praises and trust from our patients, making GHK the choice of many expectant parents. Recently, our hospital has been awarded the Best Private Hospital at the Hong Kong Living Parent & Baby Awards, and I attribute this to all of you! My note of thanks also goes to those of you who continued to work tirelessly during the Lunar New Year.

We are working hard to put our various work plans into actions, at the same time, we play our part as a member of society by setting up a vaccination centre in the hospital to support the city-wide COVID-19 vaccination programme. With the centre expected to start running in mid-March, we are actively making arrangements for manpower and resources to ensure that patient care and services will not be compromised. Re-configuration, re-zoning, installation, equipment setup, etc are being carried out to temporarily convert our Chemotherapy Centre into a vaccination centre. Activation of the service will also mean certain new arrangements and changes to some of our workflow. Please let us further update you on these as soon as we can. To all colleagues involved in preparing for the vaccination service, including Nursing, IT, Pharmacy, Operation & General Administration, doctors, nurses and many others, thank you for your hard work and being GHK’s most powerful backing, in all circumstances!

COVID-19 vaccination is expected to give us good protection against the virus, nevertheless, we understand that some of you may have various questions and concerns about the vaccination. Our IPC team has recently circulated an internal staff survey to help us better understand your vaccination intent and worries. Please take a minute to fill out the survey so that we can make appropriate arrangements that meet your needs. Our Infection Prevention and Control Officer Prof Seto Wing Hong and relevant departments will also do their best to address what you have in mind.

Going forward, TRUST will continue to be the cornerstone as we move ahead with our various initiatives to achieve sustainable growth. I hope that I can continue to interact with you on a regular basis via the existing channels, and hopefully through other new platforms to keep you informed of the hospital’s latest development, as well as to help me further understand how we can best facilitate your work and deliver the best care to our patients. I also look forward to your active participation in the various communication and engagement activities such as town halls, internal surveys, staff forum, etc. With your support to make GHK one strong and cohesive team, we are on track to become the most trusted healthcare brand in Hong Kong!

On this special day of the Lantern Festival, may I wish you and your family happiness, harmony and good health!

Dr Kenneth Tsang
Chief Executive Officer

Auspicious beginning of the Year of the Ox for GHK!

It was with much joy that GHK welcomed the first baby of the Year of the Ox on 12 February! Our CEO Dr Kenneth Tsang and the obstetrics team sent their warmest congratulations to the family on this delightful occasion.

As we ushered in the new start, Dr Kenneth Tsang dressed up as the God of Wealth and sent New Year wishes with red packets to colleagues. To keep the festive vibes going, an online riddle guessing game was organised for all members of staff to join in to win fabulous gifts!

May the Year of the Ox bring good health and success to everyone at GHK!

Oncology Ward team awarded Merit Award

The Oncology Ward team has been awarded the Merit Award for the second half of 2020 for their exceptional effort and endeavours in enhancing patient safety and patient care workflow through conducting a series of training workshops on the use of Central Venous Access Devices.

The Merit Award aims to recognise teams or individuals for implementing projects with outcomes aligned with the hospital’s vision, mission, values and priorities and demonstrating creativity, initiative, ingenuity or outstanding problem-solving competence.

The Merit Award will be presented at the upcoming Town Hall Meeting. Meanwhile, congratulations to Josephine Lau, Clara Cheung, Kitty Chan and Sarah Tsang of the Oncology Ward team on this great achievement amid their busy preparation for the launch of the Oncology Ward last year!

GHK Staff Survey on COVID-19 Vaccination Programme

Understanding that many of our staff may have questions or concerns about the vaccination against COVID-19, our Infection Prevention and Control team has launched a short internal survey to gauge your views on the matter such that we may help address or ease colleagues’ common concerns with advice from our Infection Prevention and Control Officer Prof Seto Wing Hong.

The survey is closing on 3 March, please share your views via this one-minute survey now!

Reaching out to help fight the virus

Our volunteer team of doctors, nurses, allied health professionals and medical and nursing students, who participated in the Universal Community Testing Programme in September 2020, have recently been awarded the certificates of appreciation from the Government for their contribution to the specimen collection swabbing for the public at one of the testing centres.

Let’s put our hands together again for all colleagues who went beyond their call of duty and reached out to help the community!

Helping patients regain health and strength

Our Spine Centre and Joint Replacement Centre have helped improved the quality of life of many patients via providing timely and appropriate treatments. Always striving to deliver the best possible clinical outcomes, we are proud to see that many of our patients have regained health and strength after being taken care of by our dedicated teams. Let’s catch a glimpse of the sharing by our patients and stay tuned to a full video version later on!
