Message from CEO

Dear Colleagues,

Time flies and we are already moving on to the second half of 2021. Thanks to your hard work and effort in delivering the best care to our patients at all times, GHK has continued to record a steady growth in patient volume amid the gradually increasing COVID-19 vaccination rate and stabilising local situation.

We have been doing our best to ensure that medical standards of GHK are on par with international standards, and that continuous improvement is achieved in the quality of care, service and safety. In 2019, just two years after its opening, GHK was granted a full accreditation from the Australian Council on Healthcare Standards (ACHS) International. With the Periodic Review coming up later this year, our team has already kick-started the relevant preparation. We will be focusing on the review and implementation of six improvement areas which include patient identification, medication safety, patient safety culture survey, clinical handover, etc. With the support from our Infection Prevention and Control Officer Prof Seto Wing-hong who has recently joined me to host a kick-off ceremony for the preparation, let’s work together to achieve continuous improvement in various areas and strive for even better results in the full review in 2023!

On top of maintaining high standards in our clinical services, we place great emphasis on the quality of patient experience. From appointment making, customer service during hospital visit to catering service at Gleneagles Bistro, we spare no efforts in presenting the best quality of service. We are keen on listening to views from our staff and doctors who help us make improvements that address their needs. For instance, since after the adjustment of service model of Bistro in March, we have rolled out a number of improvement measures such as providing more set meal options and introducing the Grab & Go station, other choices such as fresh fruit cups and cook-to-order set meals will also be available very soon. Rest assured that we will continue to review the quality of our food and menu on an ongoing basis.

Our Community Vaccination Centre has been in operation since March and similar to other centres, ours is expected to run until September as planned. Staff vaccination rate at GHK has been increasing steadily in recent months, with nearly 30% of our staff and 75% of our resident doctors having received at least their first dose. As understanding of the vaccines and confidence towards vaccination grow, I believe that we are becoming more on track to achieve herd immunity. Vaccination is at present the simplest and the most effective way to protect yourself and your family. In fact, only about 0.02% of our vaccinated staff have experienced some common side effects such as myalgia, headache, fever, etc., and these were all mild. For everyone’s protection, let’s get your jabs as early as possible!

Dr Kenneth Tsang
Chief Executive Officer

Our pursuit of quality never stops

GHK was granted a four-year full accreditation from The Australian Council on Healthcare Standards (ACHS) International early last year in recognition of its high standards in the quality of care, service and safety, in about just two years after its commencement of service.

With the Periodic Review coming up in October this year, our CEO Dr Kenneth Tsang and GHK’s Infection Prevention and Control Officer Prof Seto Wing-hong has recently hosted a mini ceremony to kick off the preparation for the review. With reference to the recommendations made by the assessors, GHK will be focusing on six improvement areas during the periodic review, namely patient identification, medication safety, patient safety culture survey, clinical pathway, clinical handover, and credentialing.

A celebrated quarter of encouraging growth

The second Town Hall meeting in 2021 shared with staff the progress GHK has made during the past quarter and the new initiatives and services in the pipeline.

Our CEO Dr Kenneth Tsang sent to staff his appreciation for the many achievements made in various services amid our on-going battle against the pandemic. During the quarter, we saw new record highs across many services including inpatient admissions, SOC cases, surgeries performed, and cases at AED, Radiology, and Clinical Laboratory.

Among others, our staff were briefed on our first robotic-arm assisted joint replacement surgery, the newly-installed mobile 3D C-arm imaging device in operating theatres, the renovated Outpatient Pharmacy, as well as the completed and upcoming major facilities improvement works.

GHK is poised to further enhance operational efficiency and patient safety as it looks forward to the installation of a fully-automatic vial-filling machine at Pharmacy next month.

We also took the occasion to present various awards to recognise staff who had demonstrated excellence and improvement in their respective areas.

Congratulations again to all our awardees!
