5th anniversary staff sharing series – “My memorable moments at GHK”
Message from CEO

Dear Colleagues,

All of you should have received the invitation regarding the Employee Engagement Survey (EES), and I wish to take this opportunity to ask you all to participate in it so we can make GHK an even better place for you. Over the past two years, GHK has implemented various initiatives to enhance staff benefits, welfare and other provisions, and many of these were effected in response to the feedback collected in the 2020 survey. It is possible that there are areas yet to be improved, so please feel free to share these with us so we know where the gaps are and we will see how to close them.

Congratulations to colleagues in Ward 7B and Sample Collection Centre for winning the “IHH CEO Patient Safety Award” and “IHH CEO Service Award” respectively at the recent IHH Quality Summit! Our delegation participated in the Summit in person to exchange experience with other markets and learn from their success stories. Ensuring patient safety and the delivery of excellent care has always been among our top priorities, and these awards are a testament to GHK’s outstanding quality and professionalism. Thank you for bringing to GHK these honours and keep up the great work!

Expanding our service network through collaborating with different partners has been part of our wider growth strategy. Earlier this year we joined hands with Humansa to provide medical imaging services in Central, and most recently, we further collaborated with its health and wellness flagship Humansa | Victoria Dockside where our medical team will focus on providing preventive healthcare advice and health assessments. We look forward to the generation of more synergy through this project and helping raise people’s awareness of preventive healthcare.

Despite the gradual relaxation of anti-epidemic measures in recent days, it is prudent that we stay vigilant against the winter influenza peak season amid the ongoing epidemic. Our annual influenza vaccination programme for staff has just started, and please sign up and get vaccinated to better protect yourself and your family. I have already taken mine!

Joining hands with Humansa to provide integrated health and wellness services

GHK has recently embarked on a partnership with Humansa on its flagship Humansa | Victoria Dockside which offers integrated preventive health and wellness services for those who are looking to gain better management and control of their health.

The centre is supported by a multi-disciplinary team of healthcare practitioners, including the medical team from GHK which provides patients with preventive healthcare advice, health assessments and follow-up services most appropriate to their individual needs and conditions. The partnership is poised to help patients achieve their health goals while creating a new and elevated healthcare experience for them.

Celebrating excellent patient care at IHH Quality Summit 2022

A round of applause for our Senior Registered Nurse at Ward 7B So Wing-yan and Healthcare Assistant at Sample Collection Centre Hidy Tong Yee-man for winning the “IHH CEO Patient Safety Award” and “IHH CEO Service Award” respectively at the recent IHH Quality Summit 2022!

Wing-yan showcased exceptionally attentive and vigilant nursing care by identifying a potential medication error involving a dispensed dose of vaccine for a ward patient. Her prompt and decisive action effectively helped prevent potential complications to the patients. Another awardee Hidy was recognised for her exceptional care for an elderly patient who had difficulties with undergoing blood sampling. By thoughtfully addressing the patient’s needs and concerns, Hidy instilled confidence and trust in the patient to facilitate a seamless blood test.

Themed “Quality: Above and Beyond”, the IHH Quality Summit was held on 13 and 14 October in Kuala Lumpur, bringing together colleagues from IHH’s network of hospitals and services to share quality improvement projects and effective clinical initiatives.

Employee Engagement Survey is back!

Our group-wide Employee Engagement Survey (EES) is back after 2 years. Riding on its aspiration to "Care. For Good.", IHH is committed to caring for our patients, people, the public and our planet, and among these, making sure that our people are well looked after is key to fostering sustainable healthcare for all.

Take this opportunity to share your views and thoughts on how we can do better to create an empowering and happy workplace for everyone. Click here to complete the survey from now til 4 November.

Experience sharing in promulgation of breastfeeding

As Hong Kong’s first and currently the only private hospital that takes part in the Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative, GHK was pleased to be invited to share its experiences at the Breastfeeding Conference 2022 hosted by the Hospital Authority on 28-29 October.

At the online conference, our team of Lactation Consultants shared with audience the efforts we have made and the challenges we have overcome as we forge ahead with achieving the designation of a Baby-Friendly Hospital.

The Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative was launched by the World Health Organization and the United Nations Children’s Fund to promote breastfeeding to expectant parents and the general public.

My five “Mosts” at GHK
Daniel Lau | Senior Dispenser

The most touching
When COVID-19 first hit the world in 2020 and personal protective equipment (PPE) was in acute shortage in Hong Kong, many of us were concerned about where we would have enough PPE. But soon we were relieved when our CEO Dr Tsang and Material Management Department proactively visited our department and updated us on the stock level and procurement of face masks and other anti-pandemic supplies, reassuring us that GHK would do all it could to protect us in the fight against the pandemic. I was touched when I knew that the hospital management was in this with us, together.

The most satisfying
There was an occasion when I was serving an elderly patient who had visual and hearing impairment. Having been alerted by Business Office to the extra help the patient might need, I wrote on the drug labels some notes with extra large fonts and communicated with him using additional body language and slower speaking to make sure that he knew how to use the drugs. The way that he indicated understanding and expressed his appreciation was a very satisfying experience to me.

The most memorable
I was tasked to assist in the COVID-19 vaccine preparation procedure when GHK operated a community vaccination centre in 2021. In addition, the Pharmacy team had to handle different unplanned circumstances such as being instructed to close the CVC under bad weather and follow subsequent vaccine handling guidelines. These encounters have given me valuable experience in handling urgent circumstances and developing a good rapport with the Centre for Health Protection and other departments.

The greatest teamwork
It was a Sunday amid the fifth wave of the epidemic when manpower supply was tight and our team was overwhelmed by a large number of medication cases. Nevertheless, colleagues who were supposed to be getting off work decided to stay behind to help us with the work. It was a beautiful showcase of team spirit.

Words that I wanted to share with colleagues the most
If we are open to proactively communicate with others and stay open to suggestions, many issues can in fact be resolved.
