Message from Chief Executive Officer

Dear Colleagues,

Those of you who joined us at the recent Town Hall would have learnt that Intellect, a mobile app that offers mental health support, has been officially launched to all our staff in Hong Kong. We have been actively introducing various initiatives with the aim of offering a happy and fulfilling environment for everyone. Aptly echoing our Uniquely Yours spirit, this mental health service is another showcase of our commitment to taking care of your individual needs and total wellbeing while aspiring to cultivate a supportive and caring culture. I hope you will find the service useful, whether it is for improving your general wellness, or seeking timely and professional support that meets your needs.

After months of planning and hard work by various teams, we will soon be piloting a remote care service programme through upgrading the vital signs feature in our patient app. Our existing patients and members of the community will be able to receive remote chronic diseases monitoring and follow-up services by a designated team of nurses and doctors. This meaningful initiative not only facilitates preventive care and early intervention for patients with early signs of chronic diseases, but also is in line with the government’s promulgation of preventive health which works to improve the health of our population and ease the burden on our healthcare system in the long run. Meanwhile, I am pleased to have learnt of your active participation in the naming competition of the programme. I look forward to seeing all the creative ideas from you!

I always believe that good clinical services and advanced equipment can often be reproduced, but it’s never easy to replicate the genuine care and heart-warming interactions which are unique and come from within. The 4th IHH Service Week staged earlier reminded us of the importance of embracing caring hearts and empathy in our delivery of personalised healthcare. The keynote speaker’s sharing on how simplicity can bring a positive impact on patient experience was an inspiring one. I hope you have enjoyed it and have gained some insights into how it may be put into our daily service.

Not long after our hospital’s 7th anniversary celebration, I was asked by some colleagues if our 5 Years of Service Award Presentation would continue – the answer was "Yes, and it will be in May." If you are among the award recipients this year, I look forward to expressing my gratitude to you in person for your continued support all these years!

Warm regards,

Town Hall meeting

The first Town Hall meeting in 2024 was held to share with staff some of the latest updates on the hospital. Our CEO Dr Kenneth Tsang spoke about the evolving development of GHK, the prospect of its steady expansion journey from a single hospital to becoming a network of services in different locations of the city, and the growth initiatives under our hospital and the Gleneagles Healthcare clinic chain. Also highlighted during the occasion included an introduction to the upcoming remote care programme, featuring personalised health monitoring care plans.

We were also pleased to welcome the Intellect team from Singapore to introduce to the audience the new mental wellness application which offers end-to-end mental health solutions for staff.

Fuelling professional knowledge exchange on sports and emergency medicine and cardiology

We also co-organised the Electrophysiology Symposium 2024 to generate inspiring discussions among cardiologists on electrophysiology.
Our hospital participated in the Hong Kong International Sports and Emergency Medicine (HKISEM) Conference 2024 hosted by Hong Kong China Rugby. The Conference provided an engaging platform for knowledge exchange on sports and emergency medicine, gathering academics, doctors, industry experts and more from Hong Kong and overseas to share insights. Our specialists in orthopaedics and traumatology, radiology, and emergency medicine also had the pleasure in leading some of the interactive discussions.

Kick starting brain health awareness campaign

Following a launch announcement, the community brain health education campaign jointly organised by GHK, social enterprise Silveriders and Eisai (Hong Kong) staged its first community health talk at the South Horizons Neighbourhood Community Centre. Dr Eric Yeung, Consultant in Neurology at GHK, explained the differences among forgetfulness, mild cognitive impairment and mild Alzheimer's disease (AD), as well as relevant screenings, diagnoses and treatments. Roadshows and AD screening survey will follow in the coming months as part of the programme to enhance public awareness of dementia.
Service Week 2024 – Touching Lives with Caring Hearts

GHK launched the annual “Service Week” together with all hospitals across the IHH’s global network to celebrate our relentless pursuit of service and operational excellence and reinforce our pledge to delivering the best care to patients with empathy and human touch.

Themed “Touching Lives with Caring Hearts”, the Service Week helped enrich staff's understanding of our service spirit and encourage a workplace culture that advocates compassionate care, empathy and exceptional service. Keynote speaker Jin Kang Møller shared with staff in different markets how simplicity can transform patient experience with empathy, which was followed by an array of fun and engaging activities hosted throughout the week.

Caring for the underserved

We were pleased to join hands with Food Angel again to care for the community through meals preparation volunteering! About 20 staff volunteers spent a meaningful morning to prepare cook-chill meals for the needy. Close to 6,500 sets of meals were packed and distributed to support the underserved including low-income families, the elderly and the disabled in different parts of the city. A big thank-you to our volunteers!

Meanwhile, we are happy to share that the GHK Volunteer Team has been formed! Members of the Team have become our core group of volunteers for future activities to be arranged.
